The importance of Social Media to Search engine results
The increasing buzz about social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter are leaving many business owners wondering "How can I use these tools to benefit my company's interests?" The answers haven't been all that convincing up until now that Google has bought in.
Because over 85% of western Canadians use Google as their "go to" source for information, it has long been considered of great value to be positioned as number one for any given search. And Google has bought into the social networking trend, now displaying results from Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and more in a new "Newsfeed" section of their search results, which displays information in real time. See image below:

In the past google would scan your site every 6 weeks or so, so it could take months for updated content to appear, but now, it can be displayed in seconds. So, if your Twitter account is updated regularly for key terms there is a chance your company will appear ahead of your competition in the list of regular search results.
Google stays ahead of competitors like Bing (Formerly MSN) and Yahoo, by innovating their search logic almost continually. This is just another advancement in their technology that savvy business owners would be wise to adapt to.
